By Erica Roth, Publisher Macaroni Kid Medina & Macaroni Kid North Akron July 27, 2021

Northeast Ohio may not be known for its beaches, but that doesn't mean we don't have any sandy stretches to enjoy. From building sand castles to playing in the waves, a Northeast Ohio beach is a great place for summer fun!

I often get asked what our favorite beaches are, so I thought I'd share here with you my family's picks for our top five beaches to visit in Northeast Ohio.

What we love about Edgewater:

We love Edgewater Beach in Cleveland because it has a little of everything! There is a play area for kids, hiking, cabana rentals, and beautiful views. Part of the beach is dog friendly. You can grab a scoop of Honey Hut ice cream for a real summer treat! The new Lindsey Family Play Space offers a range of nature playthings such as boulders, water, and sand. The kids can climb and explore for hours!

Main Street Beach

Main Street
Vermillion, OH

What we love about Main Street Beach:

Main Street Beach in Vermillion is a bit of a drive but it's a great family friendly beach. It's on the smaller side, but it's nice and sandy and there is a small lighthouse right there on the beach. There is a concession stand for snacks when the family gets hungry. Warning - you have to walk a couple of blocks to get to the public bathroom.

Lakeview Park and Beach

1800 West Erie Avenue
Lorain, OH

What we love about Lakeview Beach:

Lakeview Park is so much more than a beach. In addition to swimming and sand castles, your family can explore the rose garden, view the Lorain Lighthouse, enjoy lawn bowling, volleyball, and more! Grab a bite to eat at the Sunset Cafe.

Amenities at Lakeview Beach:

  • Bathhouse with changing rooms and showers
  • Concessions
  • Playground
  • Bathrooms
  • Reservable shelters and gazebos

Hinckley Spillway

Hinckley Reservation
Hinckley, OH

What we love about Hinckley Spillway:

Hinckley Lake is much closer than Lake Erie, so it's great for when you don't have time for a full day at the beach. It's perfect for littler kids with a wading area on one side of the bridge and swimming on the other side. The water is pretty shallow and there's lots of sand for sand castles. Sit on the grassy hill with your blanket and picnic and watch the kids play. Enjoy snacks from the concession stand and if you feel like a walk, you can hike the paved trail around the lake.

Amenities at Hinckley Spillway:

  • Bathrooms
  • Concessions
  • Paved trail
  • Wading area
  • Picnic tables
  • Grills

We hope this list of top five beaches in Northeast Ohio helps you find -- or rediscover! -- some fun places for your family to explore. Now get those kids out in the sun!
